About Our Counsellors
Qualified UK Career Counsellors With Direct Experience
Every counsellor at The Tutorment holds either a PhD, a Masters degree, or a Level 4 Diploma in Career Counselling. They have at least two years of hands-on experience in UK career guidance, academic admissions, health professional registration, or scholarship applications.
The people advising on HCPC registration have direct experience with that process. The counsellors supporting PhD applicants have been through doctoral admissions themselves. We do not use general career coaches for areas that require specific knowledge.

What is The Tutorment?
We're a career and academic guidance service for UK students, run by counsellors who hold PhDs, Masters degrees, or Level 4 qualifications and have direct experience in UK admissions, health registration, and scholarship applications. We work one-to-one with students from secondary school through to postdoc level. Sessions are online and the first one is free.
Do you help with PhD programme applications?
Yes. PhD applications tend to fail at specific points - the research gap isn't clearly identified, the supervisor choice doesn't align with the proposed research, or the funding application doesn't connect to what the funder prioritises. We work on those parts directly, not a general read-through of the full document.
Can you help me apply for fully funded scholarships?
Yes. We start by checking eligibility before anything else - students often spend months on Chevening or Commonwealth essays and only discover the eligibility problem at the end. Once confirmed, we work through the essays and interview prep. We've had students reach the Chevening shortlist after multiple failed solo attempts.
Do you help with HCPC and NMC registration?
Yes - it comes up constantly. Most rejections are documentation issues: missing evidence, wrong format, sections that weren't completed correctly. We go through the whole application before you submit and check it against current requirements. We also help students who are still choosing an HCPC-approved course and want to understand what the registration pathway looks like before committing.

Are your counsellors properly qualified?
Every counsellor holds a PhD, Masters, or Level 4 diploma in career counselling with at least two years of hands-on experience in UK career guidance or academic admissions. We don't use general-purpose career coaches for specialist areas.

Is everything I share kept confidential?
Yes. What you share in sessions stays between you and your counsellor. We don't pass anything to your university, employer, or anyone else. Students regularly tell us things they haven't shared with their families - failed applications, difficult supervisor situations, serious doubts about their path. We treat that accordingly.
Do you offer career guidance for international students in the UK?
Yes. International students face specific challenges that domestic students don't - Graduate Route visa eligibility, getting UK employers to recognise overseas qualifications, understanding sponsorship routes, and knowing which industries are realistic without settled status. We deal with all of these in sessions and have worked with students from over 30 countries studying in the UK.
Can you help me decide whether to do a Masters or go straight into work?
Yes - this is one of the most common questions we get. The honest answer depends on your specific course, the sector you're going into, and whether a Masters will actually move you forward or just delay the start of your career by a year. We give you a straight answer based on your situation, including when the answer is probably that a Masters isn't worth it for where you want to go.
How is this different from my university's careers service?
University careers offices are generalist services covering CV checks, job fairs, and broad career advice. They don't typically cover HCPC or NMC registration, PhD proposal writing, funded scholarship applications, or anything specific to regulated professions. We cover all of those and work one-to-one with the same counsellor throughout rather than seeing whoever is available that day.
